A better, more positive Tumblr

staff:

Since its founding in 2007, Tumblr has always been a place for wide open, creative self-expression at the heart of community and culture. To borrow from our founder David Karp, we’re proud to have inspired a generation of artists, writers, creators, curators, and crusaders to redefine our culture and to help empower individuality.

Over the past several months, and inspired by our storied past, we’ve given serious thought to who we want to be to our community moving forward and have been hard at work laying the foundation for a better Tumblr. We’ve realized that in order to continue to fulfill our promise and place in culture, especially as it evolves, we must change. Some of that change began with fostering more constructive dialogue among our community members. Today, we’re taking another step by no longer allowing adult content, including explicit sexual content and nudity (with some exceptions).

Let’s first be unequivocal about something that should not be confused with today’s policy change: posting anything that is harmful to minors, including child pornography, is abhorrent and has no place in our community. We’ve always had and always will have a zero tolerance policy for this type of content. To this end, we continuously invest in the enforcement of this policy, including industry-standard machine monitoring, a growing team of human moderators, and user tools that make it easy to report abuse. We also closely partner with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the Internet Watch Foundation, two invaluable organizations at the forefront of protecting our children from abuse, and through these partnerships we report violations of this policy to law enforcement authorities. We can never prevent all bad actors from attempting to abuse our platform, but we make it our highest priority to keep the community as safe as possible.

So what is changing?

Posts that contain adult content will no longer be allowed on Tumblr, and we’ve updated our Community Guidelines to reflect this policy change. We recognize Tumblr is also a place to speak freely about topics like art, sex positivity, your relationships, your sexuality, and your personal journey. We want to make sure that we continue to foster this type of diversity of expression in the community, so our new policy strives to strike a balance.

Why are we doing this?

It is our continued, humble aspiration that Tumblr be a safe place for creative expression, self-discovery, and a deep sense of community. As Tumblr continues to grow and evolve, and our understanding of our impact on our world becomes clearer, we have a responsibility to consider that impact across different age groups, demographics, cultures, and mindsets. We spent considerable time weighing the pros and cons of expression in the community that includes adult content. In doing so, it became clear that without this content we have the opportunity to create a place where more people feel comfortable expressing themselves.

Bottom line: There are no shortage of sites on the internet that feature adult content. We will leave it to them and focus our efforts on creating the most welcoming environment possible for our community.

So what’s next?

Starting December 17, 2018, we will begin enforcing this new policy. Community members with content that is no longer permitted on Tumblr will get a heads up from us in advance and steps they can take to appeal or preserve their content outside the community if they so choose. All changes won’t happen overnight as something of this complexity takes time.

Another thing, filtering this type of content versus say, a political protest with nudity or the statue of David, is not simple at scale. We’re relying on automated tools to identify adult content and humans to help train and keep our systems in check. We know there will be mistakes, but we’ve done our best to create and enforce a policy that acknowledges the breadth of expression we see in the community.

Most importantly, we’re going to be as transparent as possible with you about the decisions we’re making and resources available to you, including more detailed information, product enhancements, and more content moderators to interface directly with the community and content.

Like you, we love Tumblr and what it’s come to mean for millions of people around the world. Our actions are out of love and hope for our community. We won’t always get this right, especially in the beginning, but we are determined to make your experience a positive one.

my thoughts on the new Robotic 4.

As I spend last time there I could not help to have a reviewers mind the whole night so I feel I should put those feeling down somewhere and well I have not done much with Tumblr for a while and even when I do it’s mostly porn so let’s give our genitals a rest and review this. I’m going to go about this in a Q&A format from the inner mind dialog.

Q. is it like Robotic 3 aka kamps.  A. No. now this is both for the better and worst. However, we will detail that as we go.

Q. so it’s over on the GBLT/Pride/Gay District, did it make a difference. A. not really. I remember being at angles on NYE and it had a very similar style of clients. now over time, you may see a bigger influence of the GLBT community there but only time will tell if that will happen and if any kind of impact will be felt. I don’t forsee much if any drama that way.

Q. So What kind of robotic fan won out? A. By far the front room crowd. It’s pretty much all the front room. From the bigger floor to the blocking out of the rest of the bar short of a VIP area ( a different thing entirely) and the ability to hang out front because they don’t have a smoking area yet. The feeling and thought of the Robotic crew truly were on the main stage show.

Q so then who did that leave out? A. the bar area and deck people. the sitting is nonexistent via general admission and even higher up would be very limited. which means cooling down means going outside. now yes, there are two bars which are nice but the blend of areas of old kamps will be very missed by at least a few of us.

Q. so what new groups (outside the GBLT and people living on the northside) does this new focus and/or location help bring in? A. Maybe Club Hoppers. without the temptation of vegging out or getting into some pointless drunken conversation on patio seats, some may find less reason to “spend the night”. it may be more fitting to spend an hour say hi to everyone have a cocktail and go. now, this is not to say a hopping is a bad thing. some of the best nights I’ve had were hoping nights. you can be surprised how much fun you can have in a couple of hours and honestly, it may be better to vegge out at a dive bar after you rage your heart out there early. you could find an off night and build your way to rave when you’re loosen up to a dancing mood by the time you walk into the room. without the 18-20 crowd there it could be easier to get in. maybe that is wishful thinking but it ends up with a different way of taking on Robotic and one that may focus the people going just as much as the people running it.

Q. so do you think outer groups have a place to go? A, yes but it’s not centralized like it was. The old living room and bar area people are for now more geared to by Ed’s thing on Thursdays at parks (if that is still going) or are more likely to stream fb live, mixcloud or Soundcloud at home and goof around online. the 18-20-year-old still have flux and those subsonic shows.

Q. so how was the music? A. Better, it feels much more creative and freer feeling. It may not be the dub/trap sound your use too but subsonic is kind of filling in that need. It could be also a sign of EDM in general as it left dubstep in 2013 and trap has always felt like a teenager’s subgenera demography speaking.

Q. how is the bar? A. could be better but it will do. The beer is a bit warm for big brands like Budweiser (it felt at 50F and should be closer to 32F. The mixed drinks are however better done and the spirit selection isn’t bad. I would say this is the place if you hop you should get a mixed drink over a beer.

Q. do they still have the freebies? Yes but I think I’ll bring less of them home. I have a lot of them in a box and there is no need for a 2nd pair of Robotic sunglasses. that being said I have a spare pair if someone wants them.

Q. is the cover the same? well with the rsvp I got it at 5 but without its, about the same 10 you are use too.

Q. is it better than what was tried at R.Y.C., Root, ave or Six Shooters? that is hard to say. on one hand, ryc/teckneck did have a lot of space a heck of a beer deal and lot of area to play with also seating with a big balcony. Ave had the same seating, a built patio area. the Root had its only small baloney that gave a VIP feel without paying anything extra for it. it had local beer on tap. six shooters had the craziest mix of music I had ever heard and some cheapest beer I’ve ever seen. that being said all have their issues too. ryc was still very dub/trap heavy sets. they had a cash only bar and was hard to get too. I remember getting an illegal u-turn ticket the first time I went. also it never felt stable. the ever changing names, changes in open areas and changes in logos gave a feeling it was never going to last. the root never was well attended and few ever know it was a thing. at best you had 10 people in that room. ave had already had a bad rep. from it being a tossed around the bar from owner to owner, the view of it as a ghetto bar that was dangerous when it popular there was going to be an uphill climb to get picky ravers to go. six shooters were poorly located too far out for most people. it was a name that turned people away and a promotion phobia killed it before it even started.

Q. do they use angles in the best way? A. I don’t think they can, so no. the upstairs is a mess that I think could hurt them in various ways. the soundsystem’s power is a lot more present even from the other side of the club. enough to make me wonder if they should offer ear plugs up front with those freebies.  there need for a VIP area is not productive to the flow of the main room and there was many saying the props were more trouble than they were worth.

Q. do you hear anything about plans for the staff? A. well, I did hear outside about them using the upstairs as a green room. which I could see for but it screams of cutting off your nose to spare your face. there also an idea using as a VIP or opening it public only when capacity issues pop up. it makes it sounds like they need a robotic trailer to park in the back to use as a green room and gogo changing area. which is kinda funny when you think how this bar was used for drag shows and I didn’t hear about them needing to shut down half of your capacity so they can get ready. maybe the drag queens had a trailer I don’t know.

Q. what less is too early to tell? A. well yes, will the crowd stay at the same size. will it come back to being a friend and dream girl factor it became in its prime.will the random crazy nature it was known for will be just as much of a part of this new edition? However, what is life without mystery, right?

so in closing (i know at last), I will say it may not have been the same but it still has a lot of hope and that is something to smile at.

The end of the Kamps era pt. 1 a reflection.

With a new year comes some big changes. For EDM fans in OKC, it’s moving past the age of Robotic as we know it.

when I bring up what my time at Robotic Wednesday at Kamps in OKC was. There a lot to take in. Yes, it was basically a weekly club in Mid’ish sized Metro. However, it was one I spent a lot of time at. from the history and wildly spaced venue to its oversized sound system to its locals of all colors, sexes, sexualities it was an almost magical energy to it.

I only came to it by it on accident. I was being driven around on a Wednesday Sometime in the Late Summer of 2011. A friend of mine who was off on that Thursday and we were lost looking for something to do on a Wednesday. He drove down Classen only because it was a road we didn’t go down much and gave us a change of scenery. I saw a line outside of an old building with the name “Kamps” on it in red Neon. I thought “what on earth would bring a crowd like that in the middle of the week?” as we drove by trying to make heads or tails of it. My friend makes a joke at the wild look someone gave us. For me, that look was a challenge to find out what this was. I was not planning on wasting the night standing in line. So the following week was my first time. the look, the sound first drew me in. I have long been a fan of Electronic music back from the 90′s as a kid hearing acts like Bassment Jaxx and the Prodigy in an oversized file of mp3s I had. I don’t remember much about that first night I when alone. however, it felt like something I had to come back too. I became a common sight there from the late summer of 2012 to the fall of this year.

From what I’ve heard Its history dates back to 2006 and spans 3 places and I have a memory about one of its old venues that may have been this very event when I could not get in and here a set from a well-known DJ’s through the wall of the electro lounge before it closed. I was there on a few weekends late into its existence and it was nice but a bit small. It’s now the founding location of S&B’s burgers and honestly not a bad burger joint. The other location was the Sidecar (now drunken fry). I have no history with the sidecar, it was before my time.

The time was an odd pairing when you think about it. Robotic started in what felt like the dark ages of Electronic Dance music (or as it was commonly called back then electronica/dance). It was mostly forgotten age between the raves of the 90′s and the EDM boom of now. I kind of break it down as such. 06-07 the forgotten age, 07-09 the rise, 10-13 the dubstep bubble, 13-16 the age of EDM.

The odd thing was the music that drew me in was not what kept me coming back. It was the environment. I had just started to fade out with a group of friends that I shared some very NSFW hobbies with. I could go into that lifestyle but I share on a later date. If you have seen a lot of the pics on shared on here, you get the idea. even if I find a lot of them very romanticized from reality and not just because the models are way hotter than the people I’m used to seeing doing that kind of thing in real life. Some of my best times were sitting on left over furnisher back by the restrooms sometime between 2013-2015. watching two dudes who got drunk and talked like internet trolls in real life. pranks would go on back there and the staff seemed to have a very tolerant attitude to it. I would go on and on about things I remember from then. However, this would long peace would start to get unbearable. That area was kind of killed when they took the spare chairs out of the area next to restrooms and a lot of the people that hang back there moved on from it.

Later that same furnisher was used in the “living room”. A side room with a less mainstream style of music (most of the time).

Now yes a lot of people that were common sites will bring up the long list of Dj’s that have played there and of course that would be a major attraction to it. Even if 90% it guests were people I may have only heard once outside of it or had never heard of before. I was closed in the final year and in the last few weeks, a couch was seen back by the restroom. I may have been the only person to notes the full circle feeling seeing something back there was.

So what is there to miss? Well, each person I’m sure has their own answer. For me. I will miss the crazy nights back by restrooms, the roll call and promo posts from it on facebook. A place I could guarantee to see a lot of friends at every week. The feeling that I was part of something special there. I will miss the green fake grass walls that I would run my hands down as I walked to the restrooms or the living room for its short run. I will miss the walking past the smoking area to a front door where I was so well known they didn’t even need to check my ID. I will miss standing on that step in front of the bar that gave a leg-up look of the dance floor. I will miss a lot but nothing more than knowing that it meant so much to so many.

RIP Robotic at Kamps.
